There he saw one brahmin who was reading Bhagavath Gita. People were joking with him, as how he would read Bhagavath Gita. They were insulting him because this brahmin was illiterate, and he was having a book of Baghavath Gita.
However the brahmin did not care about them. He was having the book as he pleased and was reading in his own way.
Chaitanya Mahaprabhu saw this incident. He came to the brahmin and asked him what he was reading. The Brahmin understood that this person wasn't insulting and was asking the question seriously. He replied, though I don't know to read even an alphabet, I am trying to read this book.
Chaithanya mahaprabhu asked patiently as why he was reading the book. He replied calmly that his Guru, in spite of knowing that he is an illiterate person, had given him the book.
The illiterate Brahmin further said that he saw only the pictures as he does not know how to read.
Compassionately Chaithanya mahaprabhu asked as why he was crying. For this the Brahmin replied that he remembered Krishna everytime he touched the book.
He said that he remembered how Krishna loved his devotees and came down to do such mundane things by risking himself. Being so great, Krishna accepting to do such service for his devotee shows how merciful he is. He said that he thought of all these things everytime he saw the book and pictures, and these made him cry.
Hearing this Chaithanya Mahaprabhu embraced him. Prabhuji said that the Brahmin's Baghavath Gita reading was perfect as he has grasped the essence of it.
Knowing everything by the face value is nothing when compared to grasping the essence of a small part of a Upanishad. Let's learn to study something or the other, but everytime with full involvement so that we don't miss the focal point of it.
