Story #8: Valour of Angadh

Angadh was the child of king Vaali and Thara. He was the nephew of Sugriva. He along with other vanara sena helped Rama to find Seetha. His name means 'person with beautiful limbs'.  Not only were his limbs beautiful,  but they were also equally powerful.  Let's see how he used this power during the time of need.

After the death of Vaali, Sugriva consecrated Angadh as the prince of Kiskindhya. When Vanars started searching for Sita, he was appointed as assistant to Nila. Once Angada learnt the intricate details of his job he was given the duty to search out Sita in every feasible part of South India. He searched each and every area of South up to Rameshwaram. When the battalion was organized to proceed further south, he was made the head of the team.
As soon as Sita was discovered within Lanka, Ram wanted to have some peaceful talk instead of a battle to rescue Seetha. The messengers sent to Ravana were again led by Angad. He told Ravana about Rama's wish and tried to convince him with many strategies. However,  Ravana was firm in his decision in not returning Seetha.

Realizing that Ravana wouldn't heed to peace talks,  he positioned his foot strongly on the floor and threw a challenge that if any person in the Ravana's court could lift his foot Rama would accept defeat. Each and every Rakshasa of Ravana’s army and even his son Indrajit tried to lift his foot but no one could even move.  Seeing this Ravanan's became infuriated and began insulting Ram with abusive words.

Hearing this Angada became furious and hit the ground with enormous power utilizing both his hands and it caused a minor tremor in earth. Ravana fell down and his crown rolled off from his head. Before he could put it again on his head Angada captured it and threw it towards the direction where Rama was waiting. It fell right near the feet of Rama. Ravana directed his men to trap and kill Angadha but he laughed loudly and left.

Then during the battle of Ramayana, Angadha killed Ravana's son Devantaka.

We should learn from this happening in Ramayana,  that using our strength at the right place, at right time will bring in honour.

   Jai Sri Ram !!!

    1. Hanuman only first went across the ocean to find the place where Seetha was kept. After this he met Ravana and gave advice on his own creed.
This failed, so he came back and reported to ram about seeing Seetha.
After this Sethu bandhanam happened. Officially Rama sent Angada for peace talk before war as that is Yudha dharmam
